LEAD-NIGERIA   FELLOW   COORDINATES   THE   PREPARATION   OF   THE DOCUMENT ON NIGERIA FIRST NATIONAL COMMUNICATION UNDER THE UNITED NATIONS   FRAMEWORK   CONVENTION    ON  CLIMATE  CHANGE (UNFCCC)

The preparation of the Document on the Nigeria First National Communication under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) took place in Abuja, Nigeria from February 17-18, 2003.  The Head of the Coordinating Team was Dr. S.A. Adejuwon (Cohort 5 LEAD-FELLOW) who is also the Desk Officer of the Nigerian National Coordinating Committee for Climate Change.  Also, Dr. B.A. Ajakaiye, (Cohort 2 LEAD-FELLOW) is currently the Director of the Environmental Group under whose portfolio the preparation of the Document on FNC/UNFCCC was based.  The Document essentially dealt with the status of emissions of greenhouse gases in Nigeria and how to mitigate them; what adaptation options were available in Nigeria to combat climate change; and how vulnerable Nigeria is to the impacts of climate change.
