LEAD-NIGERIA INTER-COHORT MEETING, OCTOBER
AND
           INTER-SECTORAL WSSD PREPARATORY DIALOGUE
    
OCTOBER 9-10, 2001

 The LEAD-Nigeria Inter-Cohort Assembly was held between October 9-10, 2001 at the Auditorium of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Adeola Hopewell Street, Victoria Island,  Lagos.

 The Assembly was used as an opportunity for Inter-Sectoral WSSD Preparatory Dialogue for LEAD-Nigeria.  The Theme of the Discussion is “Assessing Nigeria’s Progress on Agenda 21 Since Rio: Selected Indices”.

 The Opening Address was delivered by Professor Akin Adesola, Chairman, National Board of Directors for LEAD-Nigeria, while the welcome address was delivered by the National Programme Director. 

 The Assembly was well attended by Fellows and Associates numbering up to60.

 The background papers on the Panel Discussion and Dialogue were made up as follows: 

  1. Trade and Environment – Trade and Globalization: Ecolabelling and ISO 14000 Series - by Mr. A.O. Ajayi, Fellow, Cohort 6 and Mr. Paul Igbinobia, Fellow, Cohort 4.
  1. Coastal and Marine Resources – by Mrs. Cathering Isebor, Fellow, Cohort 7.
  2. Waste Management/Toxic Waste Trading – by Dr. O.E.F. Kamson, Fellow, Cohort 1.
  3.  Education/Public Awareness and Training – by Dr. (Mrs) H. Muda-Lawal, Fellow, Cohort 7, Mr. Damian Ihedioha, Fellow, Cohort 4 and Professor B.A. Chokor, Fellow, Cohort 1.
  4. Compliance/Monitoring/Environmental Standards – by Dr. (Mrs) M. Odubela, Fellow, Cohort 2.

 After much discussion at the plenary the Fellows were broken into working groups on major areas where a draft LEAD-Nigeria’s Input to LEAD International’s WSSD was   prepared.  This draft input is attached pending the finalization of the input.

 A very important aspect of the Assembly is the visit of Dr. Sujatha Bryvaran, Director of Fellowships, LEAD International and Ms. Zoe Wildig, Fellows Programme Assistant.  They were able to interact with the majority of the Fellows in attendance and discussed programe update, fund raising, strategic planning, Associates/Fellows projects and Chapter/Alumni formation. 

 Before the close of the Assembly, the Fellows were able to constitute a Committee to look deeply into the formation of the Chapter/Alumni formation.  The Committee was composed of two Fellows from each of the nine sets of Cohorts.
