Ms. Anne Nkese Bassey ENE-ITA
holds a B.Sc. Degree in Zoology and a Master of Science Degree in
Environmental Sciences. She is a Fellow of the Nigerian
Environmental Society (NES), a member of the Scientific Committee of
the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) and a Fellow of
LEAD-Nigeria Cohort 1.
Ms.ene-Ita joined the
Federal Civil Service in Nigeria in November 1977 as a Scientific
Officer II in the then Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban
Development and Environment. She became Director of the Department
of Planning and Evaluation in 1995 during which period she was the
Programme Coordinator of the World Bank Environmental Management
Project in Nigeria; Programme Director of the United Nations
Development Programme (UNDP) Assisted Programme on Environment and
Natural Resources Management; and Programme Director of the
Multilateral Funds Phased-Out Programme for Ozone Depleting
Substances.
Ms. Ene-Ita
was a member of the Nigerian delegation to several sessions of the
Governing Council of the United National Environment Programme (UNEP),
and negotiating meetings of the various international Conventions
and Agreements including the Vienna Convention and Montreal Protocol
for the Protection of the Ozone Layer, Basel Convention on the
Trans-boundary Movement of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal,
United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and
the Convention on Biological Diversity. She was the Coordinator of
the National Preparation Committee on the United Nations Conference
on environment and Development (UNCED) and participated actively in
all the international Preparatory Committee (PREPCOM) meetings and
negotiations on UNCED as well as the Earth Summit held at Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil in 1992. She is currently the Head of the Division
of Oil and Gas in the Department of Environmental Assessment of the
Federal Ministry of Environment. Ms Ene-Ita represents the
Ministry of Environment on the Board of the Niger Delta Development
Commission (NDDC). She at one time represented the Nigerian LEAD
FELLOWS on the Board of Directors for LEAD-Nigeria. |
